KDP President Masoud Barzani honors September Revolution, calls for unity and progress in Kurdistan
"The unity of the Kurdish people is essential," President Barzani said.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani, in a speech marking the anniversary of the September Revolution, underscored the historical importance of the revolution and its enduring legacy for the Kurdish people. The revolution, which began in 1961, significantly raised global awareness of the Kurdish cause.
President Barzani highlighted the Gulan Revolution as a direct continuation of the September Revolution, emphasizing the need for all political parties and the people of Kurdistan to embrace the spirit of both the September Revolution and the 1991 uprising.
"The unity of the Kurdish people is essential," President Barzani said. "By working together, we can achieve great things. Today, as we commemorate the September Revolution, I feel blessed to be among such beloved individuals. Safin Mountain remains a powerful symbol of our history."
Reaffirming his confidence in the region's security, Barzani declared, "As long as our heroic Peshmergas stand firm, Kurdistan will remain secure, and we will continue to make progress each day."
In closing, Barzani expressed his hopes for the ongoing success and development of Kurdistan. "With determination, anything is possible. Without it, nothing can be achieved," he said, calling for continued collaboration and effort in building a stronger future for the region.
Launched on September 11, 1961, the first phase of the armed struggle demanding political autonomy and recognizing the cultural rights of the Kurdish people in Iraq lasted nine years. Eventually, the revolutionary leadership and Baghdad authorities reached a deal in which the former Iraqi regime formally acknowledged the cultural rights of the Kurdish people and made pledges to grant political autonomy.
This agreement is widely regarded as one of the earliest accomplishments of the Kurdish struggle. It compelled the regime to recognize Kurdish demands, marking a historic moment in the Middle East.
