PM Masrour Barzani: "Gomaspan dam will be very important touristic area"

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The Prime Minister Masrour Barzani with his recommendation to the 9th Cabinet at the Kurdistan Region Government, to make intensive focus on important public serving sectors. 

One of the most important publics’ serving projects is building and reconstructing dams, ponds, as well as water reservoirs to store water for public services.

Abdullah Gardi, irector of the Gomespan Dam Implementation Company, said at the opening ceremony that the Gomespan Dam is 35 kilometers away from Erbil, 70 meters high and 513 meters long, more than 97 million meters Seja contains water, now it has become a beautiful lake in the area and all the people of the area benefit from it,

“In the name God the Almighty and the compassionate

Dear attendance

Very, very welcome to you, I am very delighted to be with you- very respected and beloved, having gathered over here for the purpose of two important service plans for the people in this area, Erbil and all the beloved people in Kurdistan.

One of them is the Gomaspan Dam project, thank God it is completed, with the SENK Group’s assistance, supervising and operation, as it was recommended to implement the dam from the start.

In this cabinet, after several phases, we decided to and thank to God, we are now here to participate in the opening of this dam.

Definitely, this dam will be a good and pleasant reason to develop tourism in the zone, changing in weather, improving fish resource, and the most important of them all, it will be a very important touristic zone around Erbil, in which all people in Khoshnawati and other valleys in the zone to benefit from it.

This water is from rainwater, it is seasonal, that always used to go wasted, when we decided to build the dam, there were many ideas that we could use.

We all know those dams help our farmers, to use it in cultivating and growing, it can be very useful to under-groundwater which gets increased. 

We have a much greater plan, to develop the tourism sector in that area, we hope that God give us the chance, to be able to continue the responsibility, improve the general circumstance in the area, by providing and developing such projects.

I have no doubt that it will be a very, very good place, people from Erbil and other Kurdistan’s cities can visit it.

I’ve seen the master plan, it is very a unique and very nice, they have not yet reached the final stage, but once it is done, we will immediately start applying the other parts of that master plan.

Which, all once again, will be put at Kurdistan’s people’s service, creates a lot of job opportunities for the people in the area. Not only in the project construction, but also the continuation and management of the sites will be built in the project.

This all will all be a part of the economic development, creation of a stronger economic infrastructure, as well as creating job opportunities for the people in that area.

After forming that lake, many people visit it, come here, however, sometimes, unfortunately, they are care free about environmental protection, and throw out their rubbish, in that area.

Therefore, I hope people consider Kurdistan is a home to all of us, and protecting the environment is all our responsibility.

Who come over here, to enjoy and spend time, I hope they protect the environment of this lake or any other places they visit.

For that purpose, we have a number of loyal citizens, people from this valley as contractors, now on duty, to assist holidaymakers, not to throw their waste, rubbish and collect them.

I hope we help each other, so to be able to provide more beautiful, enjoyable and attractive places to ourselves, our future and our children as well as to insure, God willing, to all Kurdistan’s citizens. 

This is one of the very, very beautiful and excellent projects around Erbil we have started, and we will develop and expand it more.

Furthermore, to that, there are other plans and projects, within the framework in term of development system for storing water, building dams, water reservoir and ponds, as well as we are busy in some other areas building and all of them, all of them, once again, will be put at Kurdistan’s people’s service.

I hope that people in Erbil, from other cities and Shaqlawa which is behind here, and all to come soon to enjoy a nice time over here, inshallah-God willing.

That is the first project, the second one, is the construction of the Gomespan-Smaquli highway, the responsibility of the project has been given to Hemn Group.

As you know, Hemn Group built several strategic and great projects, all over Kurdistan Region, in a short time with a good capability, with an international standard, which that made us trust them more to complete such type of project, and we are sure about the quality.

This project is the first part of the construction of the Gomespan to Smaquli highway, but, in the future, in the next stage, the road will turn around the lake, and again that will be used for touristic purposes to people.

Linking the roads, on one side connecting Erbil to Raparin Independent Administration, Erbil to Sulaimani, which will be another road through Smaquli’s valley.

This is a part of it, the other part goes back to Kore, where you can go back to Shaqlawa, or even you can go back to Shaqlawa through Safin Mount.

Therefore, constructing a network of motorways in this area will connect all these beautiful areas. This highway around the lake, according the framework of the program, plan and master plan determined for the area.

It will be built in a beautiful and modern way that people can both go around the lake as well as visit places in the future, God willing, all will be built in that area.

Anyhow, that has been an important plan, for us to develop the tourism sector in that area, help our people.

As mentioned, an important issue is for water saving and storing for the purpose of identifying, ensuring water security that we can benefit from.

Also, the other attempts and other programs I talked about, God willing, all of them will all be presented soon, we will benefit from them.

Once again, I congratulate both of the two implementing companies, Senk company for building that dam, and Hemn Group for starting the Gomespan -Smaquli highway.

EshAllah, God willing, our Kurdistan, day by day becomes nicer, more developed and our people stay healthy and safe, our Kurdistan may always be prosperous.
