ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein announced on Monday that there is a high probability of expanding the war zone beyond Gaza and Lebanon into other countries.

"It is our duty to intensify diplomatic efforts to prevent any aggression and potential threats against Iraq," Hussein stated.

He added, "We are working with other countries to achieve a ceasefire," further noting that there are plans to expand the conflict to other nations in the region.

Hussein emphasized that Iraq's foreign policy and diplomatic work relies on "dialogue, peace, and soft power."

Earlier, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani characterized Israel's message to the UN Security Council as "a pretext and excuse to attack Iraq."

The Iraqi National Security Ministerial Council has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to pursue the matter in international forums and before United Nations bodies.

The council called for taking all necessary steps, in accordance with international law principles, to preserve Iraq's rights and deter Israeli threats.

The Ministerial Council urged the UN Security Council to consider Iraq's complaints filed against Israel in Aug. and Oct. of last year, demanding deterrent measures to ensure regional and international peace and stability, as well as immediate punitive actions against Israel.
