Iraqi PM, Turkish President discuss security developments in Syria
Prime Minister al-Sudani expressed Iraq's concerns over the unfolding situation in Syria, particularly acts of ethnic cleansing targeting various communities and components.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone conversation on Tuesday, addressing the latest security and field developments in Syria and the wider region, according to the Iraqi News Agency.
Prime Minister al-Sudani expressed Iraq's concerns over the unfolding situation in Syria, particularly acts of ethnic cleansing targeting various communities and components. "Iraq will not remain passive in the face of these grave repercussions," al-Sudani said.
"Iraq has endured the devastating impact of terrorism and the control of extremist groups over Syrian territories in the past. We will not allow such scenarios to resurface," the Prime Minister stated, emphasizing the importance of respecting Syria's territorial integrity and sovereignty. He affirmed Iraq's dedication to safeguarding its security and contributing to regional stability.
The leaders also highlighted the need for enhanced coordination between Iraq and Turkey to address shared challenges in Syria. They stressed that Syria's stability directly affects not only Iraq but the broader region, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts to ensure security and peace.
