ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - From the momentous collapse of Syria's Assad regime and its aftermath to the cheerful preparations worldwide, AFP photojournalists captured major moments this week.

In Damascus, thousands of families searched hospital morgues for their loved ones who vanished during Assad's ruthless rule, while the smashed statue of his father, Hafez al-Assad, outside the Baath party headquarters signified the end of five decades of family rule.

In the meantime, life continued as usual elsewhere: John Kani reprised his role as Rafiki for "Mufasa: The Lion King" in South Africa; farmers across Europe voiced their disapproval of agricultural policies.

For the first time since the fire broke out in 2019, the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris held its first service.

Furthermore, traditional festivities from Guatemala to Cameroon revealed the world's cultural diversity.
