ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Tuesday, a delegation from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) visited Pirmam to meet with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), suggesting restored cooperation between the two main Kurdistan political parties.

After the meeting, both sides issued a joint statement underlining the key points of discussion.

“The situation in the region and the changes that have happened and their effects on the Kurdistan Region and Iraq were discussed,” the statement said.

The PUK and KDP emphasized their shared commitment to unity and solidarity.

“Both sides agreed on unity and solidarity in safeguarding the highest interests of the Kurdistan Region at this sensitive stage,” the statement added.

A noteworthy part of the discussions concentrated on steps to form the new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

Both parties exchanged views on the essential measures to ensure the success of the government formation process.

Furthermore, the KDP and PUK agreed to work on preparing a joint program that will outline governance principles for the next phase.

“The program will intend to protect the position and stability of Kurdistan and uphold the rights and interests of citizens,” the statement noted.

To advance this initiative, both sides agreed to form a joint committee tasked with preparing a draft of the program ahead of their next meeting.

The Pirmam meeting is a significant step toward bolstering collaboration between the KDP and PUK as they navigate critical political developments in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
