ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – In a significant step toward financial modernization, members of the Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga forces from Unit 80 and Zeravani Peshmerga have received their salaries through the MyAccount system for the first time on Sunday.
This marks a major milestone in the ongoing digitization of salary payments in the Kurdistan Region.
According to Hoshmand Sadiq, Kurdistan24’s correspondent, this month alone, over 56,700 Peshmerga personnel will be paid through the MyAccount system.
This is part of a broader initiative that has already registered 720,000 out of one million total salary recipients in the region.
Expanding the MyAccount System
The transition to digital salary payments represents a crucial move towards financial transparency, efficiency, and security.
On Thursday, the MyAccount team confirmed to Kurdistan24 that January’s salaries would be distributed digitally across all provinces of the Kurdistan Region, with payments deposited into employees' bank accounts starting at 8 AM.
For January’s payroll, 275,000 salary recipients will be paid through the system, including 216,500 civilian employees and 56,700 Peshmerga members.
These recipients will be able to access their salaries through more than 550 ATMs located at over 200 different locations across the region.
Towards a Cashless Economy
The implementation of MyAccount is seen as a step toward a cashless economy, reducing reliance on cash transactions while improving efficiency and accountability in salary distribution.
The MyAccount team has emphasized the importance of this transformation, revealing that of the one million salary recipients, 720,000 have already been registered in the system, with 370,000 bank cards distributed so far.
This initiative aligns with broader financial reforms in the Kurdistan Region aimed at increasing banking penetration and ensuring timely and secure salary payments for public sector employees.
With continued expansion, the MyAccount project is expected to fully integrate all salary recipients in the near future, paving the way for a more structured and transparent financial system.
As digital financial services continue to grow, the adoption of such systems not only enhances government efficiency but also strengthens the financial infrastructure of the Kurdistan Region, ultimately benefiting both employees and the economy at large.
