KNCS Warns: Excluding Kurds from Syria’s Political Process Threatens Future Stability
The Syrian National Dialogue Conference failed to include all political and civil forces and this as a major mistake, Said KNCS spokesperson.

Erbil (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdish National Council in Syria (KNCS) has expressed concerns over the exclusion of Kurdish political forces from Syria’s ongoing political process, warning that such an approach undermines the prospects for a truly democratic and inclusive Syria.
Exclusion Undermines Syria’s Democratic Aspirations
Speaking to Kurdistan24 on Tuesday, KNCS spokesperson Faisal Yusuf criticized the Syrian National Dialogue Conference, which took place in Damascus on February 24-25, stating that it failed to include all political and civil forces.
He described this as a major mistake, especially given the Syrian people’s desire to break free from the exclusionary policies of the past regime.
"The Syrian people took to the streets demanding a pluralistic democratic system. These demands must be fulfilled," Yusuf stressed, emphasizing that limiting political dialogue to one faction is a negative indicator for the country’s future.
Kurds Must Choose Their Own Representatives
Addressing the participation of Kurdish figures in the conference, Yusuf expressed his respect for those who attended. However, he emphasized that the Kurdish street alone has the authority to determine its legitimate representatives. He further stressed that the Kurdish cause is a fundamental national issue that transcends the statements or resolutions of any conference.
He further noted that past Syrian opposition conferences, including those held in Cairo and other cities, have consistently affirmed that the Kurdish issue must be resolved within the framework of a unified Syrian state, with no action until now.
KNCS Rejected Participation Due to Lack of Official Representation
Yusuf revealed that some KNCS members were invited to the conference but only in a personal capacity, not as official representatives of the council. As a result, KNCS chose not to participate, maintaining its position that any political process must be truly inclusive.
He emphasized that the Kurdish political movement is working toward a unified political vision, ensuring that in any future negotiations or conferences, Kurds will have a joint delegation that represents them collectively.
Kurds Will Continue to Fight for Their Rights
When asked about the future course of action if the exclusion of Kurds from political processes continues, Yusuf affirmed that the Kurdish struggle for rights will persist. He stated that KNCS has clear strategies for securing Kurdish rights at the international level and has been actively pursuing them both before and after the fall of the Assad regime.
"We are committed to working step by step to build a unified political stance, ensuring that Kurdish representation in Syria’s future is secured through legitimate and inclusive mechanisms," he concluded.
