ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has announced that six additional neighborhoods in Erbil will now receive 24-hour electricity through the Runaki project, marking another step in the government’s ongoing efforts to expand uninterrupted power access across the region.

On Friday, the KRG’s Ministry of Electricity issued a statement confirming that round-the-clock national electricity will be provided to six more neighborhoods in the capital, namely: Tairawa, Mustawfi, Kurani Ankawa, Ankawa, Salahaddin, and Minara.

The ministry emphasized that this initiative is an extension of previous phases of the Runaki project, which has already supplied continuous electricity to numerous districts in Erbil, including Shadi, Bahari Nwe, Naznaz, Bakhtiyari, Sarbasti, Kuran, Kurdistan, Majidawa, Rzgari, Bahar, Krekawan, Azadi, Rasti, Nishtiman, Raparin, Newroz, Mardin, Zaniari, Taajil, Araban, and Minara.

Significant Growth in Power Accessibility

According to the Ministry of Electricity, the Runaki project has so far benefited 26 neighborhoods and over 346,000 residents in Erbil alone, significantly improving the city’s power infrastructure and reducing dependence on private generators.

The project continues to expand, with figures showing that across the Kurdistan Region, 415,000 households now have access to 24-hour electricity, while nearly 600 private transformers have been installed in 35 different neighborhoods to support the initiative.

The Runaki Project is a key component of the KRG's comprehensive infrastructure and development plan, designed to improve the stability and sustainability of the region's electricity supply. By ensuring more consistent access to power, the initiative not only meets the urgent demands of residents but also creates favorable conditions for economic development and enhanced public services.

The Ministry of Electricity has assured citizens that support is readily available for any inquiries or issues related to the service. Residents can reach out to the Runaki Project Service Center by calling 1992, with assistance provided daily from 9 AM to 9 PM.

This expansion represents a significant step forward in the KRG's continuous work to upgrade the electricity sector and decrease dependence on private generators—a change that has been well received by both the public and businesses. As the project moves ahead, authorities are dedicated to broadening reliable electricity coverage to additional areas, guaranteeing all Erbil residents a steady and uninterrupted power supply.
