ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) has hailed the Kurdish Unity and Solidarity Conference held in Qamishlo as a historic milestone, affirming that it paves the way not only for Kurdish unity but also for the emergence of a democratic Middle East where all peoples and cultures coexist.
In an official statement released on Sunday, the DEM Party congratulated the success of the conference, emphasizing its significance beyond mere political coordination among Kurdish factions. "The Rojava Conference, with the participation of our party’s delegates, was not only a historic step towards consolidating Kurdish unity but also a profound opportunity for establishing a democratic Middle East where every nation, belief, and culture can thrive with its own identity and dignity," the statement said.
The party highlighted that the conference embodies a model of democracy built upon the collective will and cooperation of the nation's people, rather than on imposed or authoritarian rule.
President Barzani’s Historic Message: A Rare Opportunity for Kurdish Aspirations
During the conference on Saturday, President Masoud Barzani's representative, Dr. Hamid Darbandi, delivered a pivotal message in which President Barzani described the gathering as a "defining moment" in the Kurdish national movement.
"Today, amidst the sweeping transformations unfolding in Syria and the region, a profound opportunity has emerged for our people," President Barzani affirmed, calling upon Kurdish leaders and political parties to overcome obstacles and present a unified national project that reflects the legitimate aspirations of the Kurdish people.
He recalled the decades of marginalization and injustice endured by Syrian Kurds, stressing that the ongoing political changes offer a historical opportunity that must not be missed.
The Strategic Path Forward: Dialogue and Peace
President Barzani underscored that democracy and peaceful dialogue remain the most effective strategies for securing Kurdish national rights. "A peaceful and diplomatic solution always yields better outcomes than resorting to violence," he emphasized, warning against the destructive consequences of conflict, division, and extremism that have devastated much of the region.
He advocated for the establishment of a unified Kurdish delegation to negotiate with the new Syrian government in Damascus, describing it as a necessary step toward genuine participation in shaping Syria's future.
Vision for a New, Democratic Syria
President Barzani expressed unwavering support for building a new Syria rooted in democracy, coexistence, and respect for human rights. He called for a future Syria that guarantees civil, political, and economic rights for all citizens, and that moves beyond the legacy of dictatorship, oppression, and sectarianism.
Warning against the grave consequences of violence and societal fragmentation, he called for promoting forgiveness, tolerance, and national reconciliation among all Syrians.
