KDP Vice President Masrour Barzani Backs Merger of Kurdish Student and Youth Unions at Key Meeting

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Masrour Barzani, Vice President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), met on Wednesday with the secretariat and leadership of the Kurdistan Students Union and the Kurdistan Democratic Youth Union to discuss the upcoming merger of the two influential organizations.
The meeting began with a briefing by Rebwar Yalda, a member of the KDP Political Bureau, who outlined the latest preparations for the upcoming merger congress. This event is scheduled to take place in Erbil on Thursday, under the presence and supervision of President Masoud Barzani.
During the session, Nechirvan Hussein and Maysar Neheli, Secretaries of the Students Union and Youth Union, respectively presented reports on their ongoing activities, organizational structures, and the strategic importance of unifying their efforts under one framework. They also highlighted the challenges both groups face and the opportunities the merger presents for advancing student and youth engagement across the Kurdistan Region.
KDP Vice President praised the historic role of both organizations in serving the nation, calling the merger a significant and transformative step. “This is a new and historic phase in your sovereign struggle,” he said, noting that the unification would strengthen the collective voice and impact of young people in Kurdistan.
He commended the leadership and grassroots members of both unions for their dedication and hard work and urged them to continue their national service with increased commitment. Barzani emphasized the importance of defending constitutional institutions and safeguarding the democratic and national achievements of the Kurdistan Region.
