Soran Gate Nears Completion as PM Barzani Accelerates Infrastructure Push

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – In a significant boost to regional development, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced on Monday that the long-awaited road and overpass project at the Soran Gate in the independent administration of Soran has entered its final phase and will soon be open to traffic.
The announcement, made by the Department of Media and Information via its official X account, marks a tangible step forward in a broader campaign to modernize infrastructure across the Kurdistan Region.
This milestone follows the foundation stone-laying ceremony held on May 28, 2024, where Prime Minister Masrour Barzani launched four major projects in the Soran Independent Administration. The projects reflect a deepening commitment by the ninth cabinet to enhance infrastructure and stimulate regional prosperity despite ongoing financial constraints.
Among the most ambitious undertakings is the Hamilton International Road, designed to link the strategic Haji Omeran Border Crossing with the provinces of Erbil and Duhok. Recognized for its critical geopolitical and economic significance, the KRG allocated 80 billion dinars to the Hamilton Road alone—an unprecedented investment aimed at bolstering trade and connectivity.
Since the beginning of 2024, the KRG allocated a total of 21.5 billion dinars to various infrastructure initiatives throughout the region, signaling a determined effort to overcome fiscal challenges through effective planning and collaboration with the private sector.
Last year, Prime Minister Barzani also inaugurated the Ranya Bridge, a vital transportation link connecting the areas of Pishder, Bitwan, and Marga. The bridge is expected to improve accessibility for local farmers and boost tourism in the area. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, Minister of Housing and Reconstruction Dana Abdulkareem Hamasalih, local officials, and residents.
Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Barzani acknowledged the economic hardships facing the region but reaffirmed the government’s commitment to infrastructure development as a pathway to economic resilience and community upliftment.
The Soran Gate project and its affiliated developments underscore the KRG’s strategy to leverage strategic investments in roads and bridges to drive long-term regional growth, strengthen local economies, and improve quality of life across the Kurdistan Region.
