ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The sounds of explosions and air defense fire that had rocked Tehran and surrounding cities halted around 4:00 AM local time on Tuesday, according to eyewitnesses cited by BBC Persian.
Residents from the capital reported that the intense booms and flashes—described as some of the loudest during the recent escalation—subsided as dawn approached. Similar reports emerged from the nearby cities of Karaj and Rasht, where residents also noted the sudden end of the hostilities around the same time.
The reported cessation of explosions coincides with statements made earlier by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who indicated that "As of now, there is NO "agreement" on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations."
In a post on X, Araghchi emphasized that "Provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4 am Tehran time, we have no intention to continue our response afterwards."
Despite rejecting any formal ceasefire agreement, Araghchi praised Iran’s armed forces for continuing operations “until the very last minute,” asserting that Iran’s final decision on whether to end its military response altogether would be made later.
The development also follows a statement by U.S. President Donald J. Trump, who announced Monday on his Truth Social platform that Iran and Israel had agreed to a "Complete and Total CEASEFIRE." The deal, according to Trump, would begin after a series of final missions and include a staggered ceasefire initiated by Iran and followed by Israel, marking the end of what he termed “THE 12 DAY WAR.”
While no further confirmation of a mutual ceasefire has been issued by Tehran or Tel Aviv, the overnight calm observed in the Iranian capital suggests at least a temporary halt in the current round of hostilities.
