Lavrov Calls for US-Russia Economic Talks as Tensions Persist
Russia’s foreign minister called for talks with the US on future economic ties, signaling openness to dialogue despite ongoing differences and tensions
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said "the time has come for discussions with the United States on the future of economic relations," as Moscow signals interest in renewed engagement with Washington.
Speaking at a summit in Antalya, Lavrov Said "there is a need to address how the United States envisions future economic ties with Russia," while acknowledging that significant differences between the two countries remain.
He also commented on the state of NATO, saying the alliance is “not in the best state,” but stressed that Russia would not interfere in its internal affairs.
Lavrov’s remarks come as Moscow positions economic cooperation with the United States as a central element in its broader push for a diplomatic detente with the administration of US President Donald Trump.
The statement reflects ongoing efforts by Russia to reopen channels of communication with Washington, even as divisions continue to shape relations between the two sides.
