U.S. Embassy in Baghdad Issues Nationwide Security Alert, Suspends Consular Services
The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad on Sunday issued a nationwide security alert urging American citizens in Iraq to exercise heightened caution, shelter in place when necessary, and avoid large gatherings amid ongoing missile and drone threats and anti-U.S. demonstrations.
In a statement dated March 1, 2026, the U.S. Mission in Iraq said reports of missiles, drones, and rockets in Iraqi airspace continue, while active threats to U.S. interests — including restaurants, businesses, and individuals — are being closely monitored.
The embassy described the security environment as “complex” and subject to rapid change.
