Kurdish Artist Showcases Kurdish Culture in Washington
Renowned Kurdish artist Luqman Ahmed held a painting exhibition in Washington, using his work to introduce Kurdish culture and life to a diverse, international audience and to foster cross-cultural dialogue through art.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Renowned Kurdish artist Luqman Ahmed is utilizing his creative work as a powerful medium for cultural diplomacy, hosting a unique painting exhibition in the Washington area designed to introduce the Kurdish cause and way of life to a diverse, international audience.
The event, organized by members of the Kurdish diaspora in Washington, took place in the intimate setting of a private residence in the state of Virginia.
The exhibition showcased a significant collection of Mr. Ahmed's paintings, which vividly reflect themes of Kurdish culture and life, capturing the attention of a varied, multinational audience.
A particularly captivating feature of the artistic gathering was a live demonstration of Mr. Ahmed’s talent, where, in front of the assembled guests, he painted a portrait of Greek musician Spiros Kolia Vasilis in what was described as a captivating artistic gesture.
In an interview with Kurdistan24, Luqman Ahmed elaborated on the exhibition's purpose and unique format.
He explained that holding the event in a private home was a deliberate choice "so that people can come and see the paintings up close." Mr. Ahmed highlighted the importance of the diverse attendance, which included Arabs, Americans, and Kurds, viewing it as "a good opportunity for cultures to connect."
He emphasized the core mission of his work on display, adding, "Among the paintings, we have Kurdish themes to introduce to foreigners and to convey a message to them."
The subject of the live portrait, Greek musician Spyros Kolia Vasilis, also spoke to Kurdistan24 about the deep ties between the two artists and their respective cultures.
"For 15 years, I have been promoting Greek culture and Middle Eastern music. My friendship and collaboration with Luqman dates back 15 years," he said, emphasizing the cultural closeness he feels between the Kurdish and Greek peoples.
The sentiment of art serving as a cultural bridge was echoed by other attendees.
Journalist Shamim Rassam, who was present at the exhibition, praised Mr. Ahmed's work and his role as a cultural ambassador. Rassam described him as "one of the most unique artists who can introduce Kurdish and Iraqi culture through his art."
Ultimately, the artistic event served as more than just a showcase for a talented Kurdish artist's portfolio; it functioned as an important platform for dialogue and cultural exchange among the diverse communities residing in the American capital.
