Masoud Barzani discusses bilateral ties in meeting with Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi

Former President of the Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani, met with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi on Sunday to discuss various topics, including bilateral ties between the UAE and Kurdistan.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Former President of the Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani, met with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi on Sunday to discuss various topics, including bilateral ties between the UAE and Kurdistan.

Barzani, who is currently the head of the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), led a Kurdish delegation to Abu Dhabi after receiving a formal invitation and was accompanied by Masrour Barzani, the Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC).

In a meeting with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and the Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, both sides discussed the political situation in Iraq and the region as well as bilateral ties between the UAE and the Kurdistan Region, according to Barzani’s press office.

Nahyan welcomed the warming of relations between Erbil and Baghdad and expressed his readiness to support the restoration of ties between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government of Iraq, Barzani’s office added.

Barzani’s visit to the UAE follow a two-day visit to Baghdad on Thursday in which he expressed support for the newly formed federal government of Iraq headed by Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi.

The last time Barzani and Nahyan met was in Nov. 2016.
