ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Continued flooding in the Kurdistan Region caused devastation to infrastructure and residents' property on Friday in Sulaimani Province’s town of Darbandikhan.
The torrential rainfall which has lasted for days resulted in rising levels of the Sirwan River, flooding houses and damaging the bridge that connects Darbandikhan to Kalar city.
The flood also washed away various vehicles, including pickup trucks and a bulldozer.
“We have never seen such ongoing heavy rainfall over the past four decades,” an elderly man in Darbandikhan told Kurdistan 24 during a live broadcast.
Other photos and footage posted on Kurdish social media networks showed the road of Smaquli, the main passage between Erbil and Sulaimani, was blocked and submerged under muddy water.
