AMEDI, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – Civilian casualties were reported as Turkish warplanes on Saturday carried out airstrikes against Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) positions in the northern Kurdistan Region's Amedi area.
Turkey launched airstrikes in the Kurdistan Region’s border areas of Amedi in Dohuk Province under the pretext of the PKK’s presence in the area.
A Kurdistan24 reporter in the area said the airstrike targeted a PKK vehicle. Casualties among the PKK fighters were unknown, he added.
The reporter revealed the Turkish airstrikes damaged three civilian vehicles and a livestock pen, wounding several people.
Muhammed Muhsin, a resident of one of the villages targeted by Turkish warplanes, told Kurdistan24 the airstrikes took place while he and others were on their way to farmlands in the area. "We took cover when we noticed the planes," he said.
Muhsin, whose car was also hit, thinks PKK vehicles may have escaped the raid. He confirmed three cars, including his, were targeted but that the people on board managed to flee.
In the last several days, the Turkish army intensified its campaign against PKK strongholds in the Kurdish regions of southeast Turkey [Bakur] and border areas of the Kurdistan Region.
On Friday, Turkish warplanes carried out airstrikes against PKK positions in villages of the Shiladze sub-district in Dohuk province, wounding a 30-year-old woman civilian.
Colonel Dler Zebari, a border guard commander, told Kurdistan24 two Turkish warplanes struck the Shaja and Bejal villages in Shiladze area.
Zebari mentioned the airstrikes went on for one hour on Friday night.
