ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, on Saturday stressed to the new governor of Erbil the necessity of serving all people of the capital, especially those with limited financial means.

Barzani extended “sincere congratulations” to the new governor of Erbil, Omed Khoshnaw, and wished him success in carrying out his responsibilities, the premier’s office said in a statement.

Khoshnaw took the oath of office on Thursday in front of the Region’s President, Nechirvan Barzani. The new governor succeeded Firsat Sofi, who died after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

According to Saturday’s statement, the prime minister stressed to Khoshnaw the need to “serve the people of Erbil, and its diverse components in a fair manner, especially the poor of society and those with limited income.” Barzani also affirmed his full support to the new governor in serving the citizens of the capital.

Khoshnaw thanked the prime minister for his support, the statement said, and assured Barzani that he would do his best to meet the expectations of citizens to further develop Erbil and sustain its prosperity.

Former governor Sofi died on November 18, 2020, at the age of 42, due to complications from the coronavirus.
