ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The commander responsible for protecting the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) branch headquarters in Kirkuk, Major Dilshad Ali, confirmed that they had been warned of a possible surprise attack days before the incident.

Ali told Kurdistan 24, "Three days before the attack, the party branch headquarters official informed us of the need to be cautious and vigilant against an attempted armed attack on the headquarters."

Consequently, all security forces, soldiers, and Zervani commanders were on high alert and prepared to respond to any threat.

The attack began at 1:57 a.m. from two directions: one from inside a nearby building and the other from the cemetery. "The headquarters' protection forces immediately responded to the sources of fire and pursued the attackers," Ali explained.

Major Dilshad Ali emphasized that the KDP "enjoys great popularity and status, so it has many enemies who are trying to break the party's will in Kirkuk, but we will defeat them."

What Happened?

The headquarters of the third branch of the KDP in Kirkuk Governorate was targeted by gunfire early on Saturday morning, with no casualties reported.

The branch official, Mohamed Kamal, said that around 3:00 a.m., gunmen with sniper weapons attacked the party headquarters from two different directions before security personnel engaged them.

In a call with Kurdistan 24, Kamal confirmed that the attackers aimed to target the guard post and then infiltrate the headquarters to commit terrorist acts. He stressed that the attack did not result in any injuries but highlighted that such incidents are "a bad development and require a comprehensive investigation as soon as possible."

The KDP headquarters in Kirkuk has faced previous threats, but this recent coordinated attack underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region. The party's officials have called for increased vigilance and security measures to prevent future attacks and protect the party's assets and personnel.
