Five Pro-Iranian fighters killed in drone strike near Syrian-Iraqi border: Syrian Observatory

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Five pro-Iranian fighters were killed and several others were wounded in a drone strike near the Syrian-Iraqi border on Sunday, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The attack, carried out by an unidentified drone, targeted militants traveling in a military vehicle close to the border area.

This region, straddling eastern Syria and Iraq, is a significant zone of influence for Iran and its affiliated groups, including various Iraqi factions.

The drone strike highlights ongoing tensions and conflicts involving Iranian-backed forces in the area.

In June, a similar airstrike in the same region resulted in the deaths of three pro-Iranian fighters, underscoring the continued volatility and strategic importance of this border zone.

Since the onset of the Syrian conflict in 2011, Israel has conducted hundreds of airstrikes targeting various sites within Syria, further complicating the security dynamics in the region.
