Kurdistan introduces electronic system to accelerate services, provide transparency

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The Ministry of Interior in the Kurdistan Region on Thursday announced they would introduce an electronic system in all departments of the Region to replace paper-based documents and fight corruption.
According to the Ministry of Interior, the electronic system will help citizens complete their transactions faster and provide greater transparency in all sectors.
“We are starting to adopt a new strategy to establish an electronic system in all departments of the ministry,” Interior Minister Karim Sinjari said during the E-Governance and Public Service Center Project conference in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region.
Sinjari pointed out that traffic police departments have already begun the launch of the electronic system to record documents, tickets, and other files.
The Interior Minister said a full execution of the electronic system would be ready within the next four years as the Ministry has already started submitting the necessary paperwork.
“The Ministry of Interior will stand by and support the implementation of the project during the next four years,” Sinjari stated.
“This system will benefit the government financially and will reduce financial and administrative corruption, and increase transparency,” he added.
The Interior Minister also mentioned that the ongoing financial crisis in the Region would have an impact on the project, but noted that the Ministry would go ahead with the completion of the electronic system anyways.
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has used a paper-based system in most of its institutions across the Region which delays the process and causes challenges for citizens who need documents.
