Reading Books Competition is held among schools, in Erbil

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – With the participation of more than 57 schools, in Erbil the capital city of Kurdistan Region, a Reading Books Competition has been arranged, and it lasts for 2 days.

Dr. Mohammed Hasan, a paediatrician, told Kurdistan 24 that in the aim of encouraging the younger generation to read more, he organized such event, "it has had a positive impact on the pupils and students, they are happy to have participated in the competition" Dr. Hasan said.

According to his statement, once he proposed the idea, all the necessary arrangements for the competition, gathering, technical related issues and announcements, thereafter, followed and took places.

As reading becomes more challenging, readers percentage declines within time, in a country like the United Kingdom of Great Britain (UK), there are specific campaigns funded to encourage and support children of all ages to read in and outside the schools' curriculums, Reading Champions, Summer Reading Challenges are most well-known, as well as the local libraries and centres arrange competitions and events in that regard.

Back to Erbil's reading competition, depending on the competition's terms and conditions, the first 10 children will be selected and asked to analyze the summary of a book they chose to read, in a few minutes, then assessment and evaluations will be by the designated committee.

Savina Mohammed is a pupil and one of the participants, told Kurdistan 24 “my book is called Khanzad its subject is history, I was able to finish it within two weeks, books give knowledge and education to humans."

Another pupil, called Rahand Hasib said, “I finished reading my book in 10 days, this competition is very good for promoting education, I started reading at an early age and this is not my first time,”

Dr. Mohammed Hasan said “as a paediatrician, my purpose in such project is to make culture of reading prevail because reading books is not only useful for educating and improving thoughts skills, but also useful for the health"
