ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which control an autonomous region in northeastern Syria, have reiterated their commitment to the unity of the country, distancing themselves from any secessionist agendas.

In a statement issued Wednesday, SDF commander Mazloum Abdi conveyed this position to Damascus authorities, emphasizing that the forces oppose any initiatives that could threaten Syria’s territorial integrity.

"We agree that we are for the unity and integrity of Syrian territory and reject any division projects that threaten the country's unity," Abdi said in a written statement to AFP.

The SDF, backed by the United States, have been a key player in the fight against ISIS and currently govern a large swath of land in Syria’s northeast.

The announcement comes amid ongoing efforts to negotiate a political resolution to Syria’s protracted conflict, with various parties seeking to balance regional autonomy and national unity.
