ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein has urged his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araqchi, to maintain momentum in nuclear negotiations with the United States, despite the recent Israeli strikes on Iran. The request came during a phone conversation between the two officials on Friday.

According to the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, Hussein emphasized that while Iraq strongly condemns Israel’s attacks, it views continued dialogue between Tehran and Washington as essential for de-escalation and a return to regional stability.

Reiterating Iraq’s official stance, Hussein conveyed to Araqchi that both the Iraqi government and its people stand in solidarity with Iran in confronting the current volatility and the growing threats facing the region.

On the same day, Iraq’s Foreign Ministry submitted an official complaint to the United Nations, denouncing Israel’s violations of Iraqi airspace used to launch attacks on Iranian territory. The ministry described the actions as “a blatant breach of Iraq’s sovereignty” and a violation of international law, particularly those principles relating to the respect of national borders and non-intervention.

Iraq Calls on UN Security Council to Act

The ministry also urged the UN Security Council to assume its legal and moral responsibility by deterring Israel from further breaches and ensuring respect for Iraqi sovereignty, which it said is critical to maintaining regional peace and security.

Earlier on Friday, Israeli forces launched extensive aerial and missile strikes on Iranian targets, reportedly striking nuclear facilities, ballistic missile production centers, and senior military figures.

Iranian media published footage of explosions, including an alleged strike on the main uranium enrichment facility at Natanz. Israel justified its actions as preemptive, claiming intelligence indicated Iran was preparing a retaliatory missile or drone attack.
