DEM Party Confirms Visit to Sulaimani for PKK Disarmament Ceremony Following Ocalan’s Message
“Today, 26 years later, we saw a video of Abdullah Ocalan in Imrali,” Dogan said. “This recording has become the agenda of Turkey and even the world, highlighting that the Kurdish issue is not solely a Turkish issue.”
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) spokesperson Aysegul Dogan announced on Wednesday that a party delegation will travel to Sulaimani on July 11 to attend a ceremony marking the disarmament of several Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) fighters.
Speaking at a press conference, Dogan said the disarmament step aligns with decisions made during the PKK’s 12th congress.
Her remarks come in the wake of a historic development: the release of a video dated June 19, in which jailed PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan called for the formal dissolution of the PKK.
“Today, 26 years later, we saw a video of Abdullah Ocalan in Imrali,” Dogan said. “This recording has become the agenda of Turkey and even the world, highlighting that the Kurdish issue is not solely a Turkish issue.”
The upcoming disarmament ceremony in Sulaimani is expected to be a pivotal moment in the broader peace process, with implications for both domestic stability in Turkey and regional dynamics across the Middle East.
