ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Hashd al-Shaabi, also known as the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), gained control of the military airport of Sinjar (Shingal) on Thursday.

A statement by the PMF media office claims the militia now controls the airport, describing the operation as “easy” and called the airport important for strategic and logistical purposes.

The airport, also named “Sinjar plain military base,” is located south of Qairawan, west of Mosul and south of the Ezidi-populated city of Shingal.

The forces also announced they gained control of the nearby al-Amdena village and stormed the village of Karka, located beside the airport.

The operations began on Thursday morning, the sixth consecutive day of operations led by the Hashd al-Shaabi to liberate Qairawan and its surrounding villages.
