ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – As in the aforementioned report in the section Press and Media in Kurdistan, similarly, the UK Parliament depended on Kurdistan 24 as one of the resources in their documentation recording

Kurdish Referendum

The Kurdish Referendum occupied a significant part in the document that referred to a factual information. It recorded that more than 92% of Kurds voted for the independency in 2017. Emphasized by the MPs in the UK Parliament.

The Parliamentary General Election in Kurdistan Region

The Parliament of the United Kingdom was very concerned about the due date of the general election in Kurdistan Region. They were in persistent contact with the Kurdistan Region Government’s Prime Minister and PM Deputy to rescheduling the election to take place immediately.

UK Government through Agencies

The Commons Foreign Affairs Committee (CFAC ) reported Kurdish Peshmerga fighting against ISIS. It conferred tension between Iraq’s federal government and Kurdistan’s autonomous government - Kurdistan Region Government. 

Diplomatically, The CFAC office, to improve relations between the two governments and to aid the Iraqi government and Kurdish autonomous on media freedom, corruption and democracy. 

In 2023

The UK Government's body, continuosly debated the stability support to Kurdistan Region. In 2023, the Minister for the Middle East, Lord Ahmad, visited Kurdistan to discuss digital reforms as well as climate change, human rights, and security. 

“In June 2023, there were 154 British military personnel deployed in the Kurdistan region of Iraq under Operation Shader and Operation Inherent Resolve (which targeted ISIS in Syria and Iraq)." According to the document. 

In August 2023, Security Minister, Tom Tugendhat, visited the region to discuss organized crime, including immigration, crime, human trafficking and narcotics.

The Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom UK-FCDA, the Rt Hon James Cleverly MP, hosted Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq Mr Fuad Hussein, for the UK-Iraq Strategic Dialogue in London on July 3rd and 4th 2023.

Trade 

The UK Government always worked to create the bilateral trade, experts discussed how to encourage greater investment into Iraq and how to remove barriers to trade. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs also met leading UK businesses to identify new commercial opportunities.

Health

Developing the health sector was an important side to discuss and decision made inregard. The UK’s ongoing £35 million Demographic Transition programme welcomed by the officills in Iraq and the Regional Government. To support the Government of Iraq to deliver Family Planning and Sexual Reproductive Health services in line with Iraqi rules and law.

The document referred “The Republic of Iraq and the United Kingdom look forward to concluding the Strategic Dialogue sessions and reviewing their progress at the next Strategic Dialogue, planned for 2024 in Baghdad.”
