ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister Masrour Barzani officially opened the Kavin Farm project on Monday, the largest livestock and dairy initiative in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
The project, valued at $80 million, aims to boost local dairy production and significantly reduce reliance on imports.
Located on 3,000 acres of land, Kavin Farm is set to produce 120,000 liters of milk per day, contributing to the domestic production of yogurt, milk, and cheese. The facility is expected to create 2,500 direct and indirect jobs, providing a major economic boost to the region.
The project was first initiated on June 7, 2022, when Prime Minister Barzani laid the foundation stone. After two years and three months of construction, the facility is now complete, showcasing the government's commitment to enhancing the local agricultural sector.
Kavin Farm also includes significant green space, with more than 125,000 square meters of landscaping and the planting of approximately 25,000 trees. This environmentally friendly aspect highlights the project’s dedication to sustainable development while supporting local agriculture.
