PM Barzani, GCC Secretary-General discuss strengthening ties at WGS 2025

Discussions highlighted the shared interests and mutual benefits of stronger regional partnerships, which would lead to greater economic and diplomatic collaboration.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with Jassim Mohammed al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), on Tuesday during the World Government Summit (WGS) 2025 in Dubai. The high-level meeting, also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, focused on expanding cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and Gulf nations. 

Discussions highlighted the shared interests and mutual benefits of stronger regional partnerships, which would lead to greater economic and diplomatic collaboration. Both sides expressed a commitment to fostering closer ties that contribute to stability and prosperity.

The leaders also exchanged views on developments in Syria, reaffirming their dedication to maintaining security and stability in the region. They underscored the importance of respecting the rights of Kurdish communities and other groups in Syria, emphasizing the need for peaceful coexistence. 

The meeting reflects the Kurdistan Region’s ongoing efforts to strengthen international partnerships and constructively influence regional affairs.
