ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and U.S. National Security Advisor Michael Waltz reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties between the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the United States while emphasizing the urgent need to resume Kurdistan Region’s oil exports.

The two sides held a phone conversation on Friday, where they discussed a range of critical issues, including regional stability and political developments within the Kurdistan Region.

One of the key focal points of the discussion was the prolonged halt in the Kurdistan Region’s oil exports.

Both sides underscored the importance of reinstating exports as soon as possible, citing the economic significance of the sector for both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. The continued suspension of oil shipments has had economic repercussions, and the resumption of exports remains a pressing issue that requires immediate resolution.

During the conversation, PM Barzani and Waltz also addressed the political landscape in Kurdistan, particularly the necessity of forming the new KRG cabinet without further delay. The formation of the government is seen as a vital step in ensuring political stability and governance efficiency in the Kurdistan Region, a key U.S. ally in Iraq.

The discussion further expanded to include a broader assessment of developments in the Middle East. Both leaders acknowledged the rapidly shifting geopolitical environment and emphasized the need to maintain stability across the region. With ongoing conflicts and political tensions escalating, the Kurdistan Region’s role as a stable entity within Iraq remains crucial to U.S. interests and broader regional security.

This high-level engagement reflects Washington’s ongoing support for the Kurdistan Region and its commitment to fostering stronger economic and political ties. The call comes at a critical juncture when regional players are navigating complex challenges, and the Kurdistan Region’s economic and political stability remains a key priority in bilateral relations.
