ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Iraqi Council of Ministers is set to convene today, Tuesday, at 1:00 PM in Baghdad, with the issue of May salary payments for Kurdistan Region public employees expected to feature prominently during the session.

A source within the Cabinet confirmed to Kurdistan24 that although the salary matter is not explicitly listed on the official meeting agenda, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani is likely to raise the topic during the discussions.

The same source emphasized that a formal vote on the matter is not expected. Instead, a decision may be reached through a cabinet-level proposal to allocate necessary funds for the May payroll ahead of the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday.

The issue of delayed salary disbursement has sparked widespread concern in the Kurdistan Region, with growing calls for Baghdad to resolve the financial deadlock in line with constitutional commitments.

While a partial disbursement of salaries for the month of May is anticipated, the final legal outcome will depend on a forthcoming decision by the Federal Supreme Court, which is set to review the Iraqi Ministry of Finance’s previous withholding decision after the Eid holiday.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has repeatedly urged the federal government to release public sector wages, citing the adverse humanitarian and economic impact of the delays.

Today’s Cabinet session, chaired by Prime Minister Sudani, comes amid heightened political attention and public pressure as the holiday approaches and thousands of families await clarity on their financial future.
