Czech Republic to invest in Kurdistan’s agriculture, build tractor factory

In a statement, KRG quoted Deputy PM Talabani saying that government was working on prioritizing the agriculture sector through reform aiming to protect local products.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – A delegation from the Czech Republic currently visiting the Kurdistan Region expressed interest in investing in agriculture in the Region.

A Czech delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture arrived at Erbil the capital of the Kurdistan Region on Tuesday to discuss coordination and cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and Czech to develop the Region’s economy in the agriculture sector.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani and the Czech delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jiri Jirsa in a meeting discussed investments in the Kurdistan Region’s agriculture.

In a statement, KRG quoted Deputy PM Talabani saying that government was working on prioritizing the agriculture sector through reform, aiming to support and enhance local products.

Jirsa stated that Czech Republic was ready to cooperate and coordinate with the KRG to develop the agriculture, expressing the willingness to fully support KRG in the reform process, according to the statement.

In a joint conference in Erbil attended by Czech Republic delegation and KRG’s Ministry of Agriculture Jirsa told Kurdistan24 that the purpose for the visit was to start working with the KRG’s Ministry of Agriculture to develop agricultures, build dams and provide farming equipment.

He also spoke about building a factory to manufacture tractors in near future.

Jirsa said the Kurdistan Region has potentials for investment.

Head of Development at Zetor Company, Milan Matkovic, speaking to Kurdistan24 said that Zetor was willing to establish a branch and was also considering opening a factory for manufacturing tractors in the Kurdistan Region.
