Italy, Czech Republic reiterate support for Kurdistan

KRG PM seperately met with Italian and Czech Ambassadors to Iraq and their accompanied delegation.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – Italy and Czech Republic ambassadors in separate meetings with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister expressed support for the Kurdistan Region.

The KRG PM Nechirvan Barzani on Thursday received Jan Vycital, the Czech ambassador to Iraq, to discuss the bilateral relations, the situation in the Kurdistan Region, and the displaced people.

According to a statement on the KRG website, Vycital’s purpose for the visit was “to closely see the situation in the Kurdistan Region and the mechanisms applied by the KRG to overcome the current situation and the crises as well as visiting the camps of displaced people.”

Vycital briefly talked about Czech activities in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in delivering its assistance through the NGOs and in coordination with the KRG institutions, expressing his country’s readiness to support the KRG in different sectors, the statement said.

Barzani thanked the Czech delegation for the visit and called on the international community to be more engaged and assist the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and refugees and support the Region’s economic infrastructure.

In regards to the Erbil-Baghdad relations, Barzani explained that although tensions have de-escalated, a dialogue has not started yet, reiterating that Kurdistan Region sees the Constitution as a base for resolving all issues.

In another meeting, PM Barzani received the Italian Ambassador to Iraq Bruno Pasquino and accompanied delegation in Erbil.

According to the Italian Consulate General, both sides discussed bilateral relations, dialogue between Erbil and Baghdad and political and economic prospects in the Kurdistan Region.

In the meeting, Pasquino hoped for continued and extended relations between the Kurdistan Region and Italy and reiterated readiness for all sorts of support, a KRG statement said.

PM Barzani praised the relations between Erbil and Rome and expressed Kurdistan’s willingness to enhance such relations especially in terms of trade and economy.
