Kurdistan counterterrorism arrests three IS members

Counterterrorism forces of Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) on Thursday revealed the identity of three detained Islamic State (IS) members.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – Counterterrorism forces of Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) revealed the identity of the three detained Islamic State (IS) members.

On Thursday, KRSC counterterrorism forces released the photos of three IS members who were recently captured in Kirkuk Province. The General Directorate of Counterterrorism of KRSC stated that they were arrested following an intelligent operation in the Province.

The arrested extremists are Shakir Nasralddin Qirish known as Abu Osama or Abu Osman, Ibrahim Mahmoud Ass’ad known as Abu Khalil, and Muhanad Nasralddin Qirish.

According to the announcement, the three were responsible for IS activities in Kirkuk. They had a hand in the suicide bomber attack of IS on Peshmerga front line – West Kirkuk on March 12, where the attack was repelled and the suicide bombers were killed before reaching the front line.

The three had carried out a number of terrorist attacks in Dubiz town of Kirkuk, west of the Province.

Recently, the forces captured Malik Ra’aat Khalaf Jadou’, an influential member of the extremist group who played a significant role in terrorist attacks inside and around Kirkuk.

On March 14, Mohamad Jamal Khweis, an American-Palestinian Islamic State (IS) member surrendered himself to Peshmerga in the city of Sinjar (Shingal).

Previously, on Feb. 17, KRSC counterterrorism forces rescued a Swedish girl, 15-year-old Marlin Stivani Nivarlain in the heart of IS-controlled territory near Mosul.
