KRG to send detailed report on progress of reform project to regional parliament

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is planning to send a detailed report on implementing the ninth cabinet's reform law to the regional parliament, an official said Sunday.

The reform law drafted by the KRG's ninth cabinet took effect in February 2020, after the Kurdistan Region's Parliament approved it at the beginning of the year. A government committee has been preparing the report that documents all the steps taken so far.

"We are committed to the [reform] law, and any paragraph or article contained in it must be implemented 100 percent," the head of the Coordination and Follow-up Department in the Council of Ministers, Abdul Hakim Khasro, told Kurdistan 24.

Khasro pointed out that some paragraphs of the law were fully implemented while some are still processing. He also indicated that the report details what has been accomplished so far and the relevant data.

The KRG sends a progress report to parliament every three months, according to an agreement with the Parliamentary Finance Committee, which is a monitory party in the process.

"We all know that the prime minister and his team are serious about implementing the reform law," Abdul Salam Dolamari, a member of the parliamentary Legal Committee, told Kurdistan 24.

The law, consisting of 19 articles, focuses on introducing reforms in retirement, salaries, allowances, grants, and benefits within the new government's work program in the region.

The KRG, headed by Masrour Barzani, has stated that the reform law will contribute to achieving justice in the long term as part of a decisive and continuous process.
