ALEPPO, Syria (Kurdistan24) – During a recent visit to Syria, Kurdistan24 reporter Hunar Ahmad visits several cities in the war-torn country where he comes face-to-face with the tragic realities of the violence.

Ahmad’s journey begins in Aleppo, and specifically towards a city called “spider city” because there are over 50 armed groups in the region. He mentions that most of the checkpoints are controlled by the al-Nusra Front, one of the armed groups in the city.

Ahmad is accompanied by Ahrar-al-Sham fighters, another armed group close to Nusra, while he travels through the bombarded streets of Syria.

Before entering Aleppo, Ahmad reveals that the Nusra group “does not allow journalists to capture the areas and the destructions due to the fear of being exposed.” The trip is risky, but the brave reporter is up for the challenge.

Aleppo is a scene of rubble and destruction. “Most of the Mosques, schools and some hospitals have been hit by warplanes,” Ahmad says.

He explains that warplane strikes continue on a daily basis in the city, and “most of the airstrikes target civilians.”

Ahmad and his team visit a hospital where the victims of the aftermath of an airstrike are being treated.

A young girl, Riham, is in shock after her family was hit while they were sleeping. Her pregnant mother cannot be saved, and despite the doctors’ efforts, the unborn baby passes away as well.

“I hope your camera crosses all the borders and delivers the pain of the people of Syria,” an Ahrar-al-Sham fighter cries.

Ahmad later heads to the front lines with the Ahrar-al-Sham leader, Abu Ahmad, who is wanted by the Syrian regime. Here, the two tread risky roads, avoiding snipers, to explore the front line.

Finally, Ahmad meets with the Spokesman for Ahrar-al-Sham, who discusses the situation in Syria involving the different armed groups.

When asked about the Sykes-Picot, the Spokesman agrees that Kurdistan will gain its deserved parts in northern Syria and Iraq, southern Turkey, and northwestern Iran.
