ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Bombardments carried out by militants in Deir Ez-Zor killed four Russian military advisers and wounded three other servicemen, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated on Sunday.

“Several groups of terrorists attacked at night an artillery battery of the Syrian government forces in the Syrian province of Deir Ez-Zor. Two Russian military advisers, who controlled the fire of the Syrian artillery, were killed on the spot. Five more servicemen were injured and were taken to the hospital immediately,” the statement reads.

Two of the servicemen eventually succumbed to their wounds, according to the Ministry.

Russian military and Syrian troops responded to the attack and reportedly killed 43 ‘terrorists,’ destroying six of their vehicles, Moscow said.

UK-based Syrian conflict monitor, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), however, claimed 9 Russians had been killed in the attack. They also added that 26 Syrian soldiers died in the Deir Ez-Zor clash.
