India to send high-level business delegation to Kurdistan Region: Consulate

India says it will send a high-level delegation to the Kurdistan Region capital later this week to explore various business and investment opportunities.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – India says it will send a high-level delegation to the Kurdistan Region capital later this week to explore various business and investment opportunities.

Representatives from several Indian companies in diverse sectors of energy, engineering, constructions, manufacturing, oil and gas, agriculture, and healthcare will accompany a high-level business delegation from the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) to Erbil from Dec. 19 to 20, 2018, a statement from the Consulate General of India in Erbil said.

“The visiting business delegation is likely to meet top government leaders and officials,” the statement added.

According to the statement, the Indian Consulate in Erbil will hold a business networking reception on Dec. 19 “which will be attended by prominent government and business leaders.”

The following day, the Erbil Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ECCI) will organize a business-to-business meeting which representatives of various companies in the Kurdistan Region are expected to attend.

Before heading to Erbil, the business delegation will also visit Baghdad to “discuss business opportunities in various sectors of [the] Iraqi economy,” a separate statement from the Embassy of India in Baghdad said.

“This [visit] indicates [the] seriousness of the Indian business community and industry to return to Iraq and to contribute to the reconstruction and development of post-war Iraq,” it added.

Following a years-long war against the so-called Islamic State, the Kurdistan Region and Iraq are beginning to rebuild and attract investments from abroad.

Moreover, US sanctions on Iran have pushed both Erbil and Baghdad to seek business from other countries.
