Masoud Barzani, Iranian Ambassador to Iraq discuss Kurdistan, Iran relations

The economic conferencein Erbil “will lead to the strengthening of economic relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Former Kurdistan Region President and President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Masoud Barzani on Wednesday met with the Iranian Ambassador to Iraq, Iraj Masjedi, to discuss bilateral relations between both nations.

“The meeting addressed the bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Islamic Republic of Iran,” a statement from Barzani’s official website said.

“The meeting shed light on the 4th conference for developing economic relations between Kurdistan and Iran, held in Erbil,” the statement added, noting that both sides considered the conference a “good step” and described it as “successful.”

“[The conference] will lead to the strengthening of economic relations between the Region and the Islamic Republic,” it read.

According to the statement, Barzani and Masjedi exchanged opinions on the current political situation and the recent developments in Iraq and the region.

The 4th economic conference between the two kicked off in Erbil on Wednesday with the participation of Kurdish, Iraqi, and Iranian officials.

During the conference, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani said the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) supports any activities that serve to strengthen trade with its neighboring countries, including Iran.

The conference was organized by the KRG’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Among the attendees were Iraqi Acting Minister of Industry and Minerals Mohammad Shia al-Sudani, Iranian Ambassador to Iraq Masjedi, and the governors of Tehran and other Iranian provinces bordering the Kurdistan Region.
