VIDEO: 5.3 magnitude earthquake hits northern Sulaimani areas

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – A strong earthquake on Wednesday hit several areas in northern Sulaimani Province causing damage to infrastructure and property.

At 4:40 p.m. local time, a 5.3 magnitude earthquake hit the Raperin areas in Sulaimani, with reports the tremor was felt in the Erbil and Dohuk governorates.

The earthquake resulted in damage to property and infrastructure.

Dara Hassan, the Director of Meteorological and Seismic Monitoring Department in Sulaimani confirmed to Kurdistan 24 via phone the magnitude of the earthquake and said that the earthquake was felt across almost all areas in the Kurdistan Region.

Hassan added that eight people were slightly wounded due to the earthquake and have been transferred to hospital.
