High-level KDP delegation visits Baghdad to discuss government formation with Iraqi leaders

The KDP came on top in the Iraqi parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region and, having won 25 seats, became the fifth largest legislative bloc in the country.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – A high-level delegation from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) will visit the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, to discuss the formation of the new government with Iraqi leaders.

The high-level KDP delegation, headed by KDP politburo secretary Fazil Mirani, will arrive in Baghdad on Tuesday to begin a series of meetings with the Iraqi leaders, a source from the KDP told Kurdistan 24.

The delegation will meet with Muqtada al-Sadr, Leader of the Sairoon Coalition, Haider al-Abadi, Head of the al-Nasr Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, Head of the State of Law Coalition, Ayad Allawi, Head of the al-Wataniya Coalition, Usama al-Nujaifi, Head of the Iraqi Qarar Coalition, and Ammar al-Hakim, Head of the al-Hikma list to discuss the formation of the next Iraqi government, the source said.

Khasro Goran, former Head of the KDP bloc in the Iraqi Parliament, Shwan Mohammed, head of the party’s Baghdad branch, Omed Sabah, and Bangin Rekani will accompany the delegation.

Headed by KDP President Masoud Barzani, the party’s leadership council met in Erbil on Sunday to discuss the elections process, its results, as well as post-election developments.

Following a meeting, the members decided to send a high-level delegation to Baghdad to discuss the process of forming the new government with the Iraqi leaders.

Late Friday night, the IHEC announced the final results of the parliamentary elections held on May 12. The KDP came out on top in the Iraqi parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region and, having won 25 seats, became the fifth largest legislative bloc in the country.
