Kurdistan Region PM visits Erbil health emergency, blood bank centers

The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the efforts of healthcare personnel, especially amid the coronavirus pandemic.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, on Monday visited the Emergency Coordination Center (122) and the Blood Bank Directorate in Erbil.

The visits come as part of the KRG cabinet's inspection of government institutions.

Barzani met with the staff of the two medical centers and heard their issues and needs, with media presence, including Kurdistan 24. The Prime Minister also expressed his deep appreciation for the efforts of healthcare personnel, especially amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"The Kurdistan Regional Government pays great importance to the health sector to serve citizens to the fullest, and we will do everything in our power to develop this sector to provide all citizen's needs," Barzani said in a statement.

The Prime Minister praised the performance of the health teams and said, "From here I extend my sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, employees and all health cadres, who face daily dangers in order to save the lives of citizens, especially after the outbreak of the pandemic," due to which, "unfortunately, many doctors lost their lives."

He pointed out that since the start of the pandemic, KRG has spent up to 23 billion dinars to secure medical devices, including providing CT Scan and MRI, and 40 billion dinars to ensure the needs of people with cancer.

The premier continued, "the government has also spent during this period more than 44 billion dinars in all four provinces and cities of the Kurdistan Region in order to confront the coronavirus pandemic."

Barzani affirmed that the KRG will spare no effort to confront the pandemic and called on citizens to continue to adhere to preventive measures to curb the spread of the disease.

In recent months, the Kurdistan Region has recorded an increasingly higher number of virus cases. The health ministry on Monday reported 730 new infections and 17 fatalities due to the disease.
