The statement came in a congratulatory message by the premier on the 74th anniversary of the establishment of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Saturday called on the political parties across the Kurdistan Region to unite to overcome the crises gripping the region.

The statement came in a congratulatory message by the premier on the 74th anniversary of the establishment of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the birth of Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani.

KDP, a major ruling party and the most senior one in Kurdistan, was established on August 16, 1946, in the city of Mahabad in Iranian Kurdistan (Rojhelat) under the leadership of late Mullah Mustafa Barzani.

"The establishment of the KDP... was a turning point in the history of our people's struggle, as all liberals lined up under the leadership of the spiritual father of our nation, the immortal Mustafa Barzani, who revived the spirit of resistance and defense in the souls of all patriots," the prime minister said.

He added: "during the long history of resistance to oppression and injustice, and the battle to protect and preserve the national identity of our people, the KDP recorded historical moments and obtained many gains, acting as a steel fortress for all the people of Kurdistan in all parts."

The KDP and "Barzani have become a symbol for defending the rights of the people of Kurdistan."

The premier stated that Mustafa Barzani and sitting KDP president Masoud Barzani, "as national leaders, whether on the battlefronts against enemies and terrorists or at the diplomatic level, embodied the will of the people of Kurdistan, strengthened the culture of tolerance and increased the people's confidence in their legitimate rights."

"We salute this anniversary today at a time when a health and economic crisis is facing the region and the area," Prime Minister Barzani noted. "The best way to overcome this crisis is unity among our ranks at home, and I hope all parties will join our efforts to overcome the differences and solve the region's problems through dialogue and by peaceful means."
