Kurdistan's Referendum Council: Postponement rumors are baseless

Rumors have been spread on social media networks claiming the historic referendum was postponed.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Region’s High Council for Referendum on Saturday said the independence referendum would be held on time, rejecting rumors of its postponement.

In an official statement, the High Council for Referendum rejected rumors of the Kurdistan Region’s independence vote being postponed, adding the referendum would be held as planned on Sep. 25.

Rumors have been spread on social media networks claiming the historic referendum was postponed.

Bafel Talabani, son of the Secretary General of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Jalal Talabani, in his personal Facebook account announced that the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and PUK have agreed to accept the international alternative to postpone independendence referendum.

Shortly after his statement, the post was deleted and followed by another statement saying that it was made by "mistake."

The PUK Spokesperson Saadi Ahmed Pira, in a press conference in Baghdad said that his party votes yes in the independence referendum and there will be no postponement.
