ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The famed Spanish football goalkeeper Iker Casillas stated on Thursday that playing against Iran in the World Cup was a challenge Spain.

During an interview with Kurdistan 24 in Moscow, he remarked that Spain had a difficult time scoring a goal against Iran.

“This World Cup will only really start in 10 days, once the final matches begin,” Casillas said.

On Wednesday night, Spain dominated the match while playing against Iran in Russia’s Kazan Stadium. It was the second match and the first victory for the Spanish national team, which ended with a score of 0 – 1.

Statistical measures showed that Spain controlled 78 percent of possession and took 18 shots to Iran’s seven and that five were on target to Iran’s zero. Spain took three times as many corner kicks as Iran.

Casillas hoped that fans would enjoy the cup in general, the goals, and the atmosphere without facing any issues.

On June 15, Spain started its first match in the World Cup against Portugal. The two Iberian rivals drew their World Cup opener 3-3 after a late and spectacular Cristiano Ronaldo free-kick leveled the score for Portugal.

Casillas added that it is difficult to predict who will win the cup, but he believes Spain has a strong chance to win with a strong rivalry between Brazil and France.

On Monday night, Spain to play its third game by facing Morocco in Kaliningrad Stadium.

Casillas is a Spanish professional footballer that currently plays for Portuguese club, Porto.

He had won the IFFHS World’s Best Goalkeeper Award for a joint-record five consecutive years between 2008 and 2012. Casillas is considered one of the greatest and most successful goalkeepers of all time.
